About Elizabeth
Hi! I am Jones. :)
I am 23 and have a passion for anything creative!
Growing up, I never felt comfortable learning in a traditional school setting because I always felt my needs were diminished or ignored.
No one tried to explain things in a way that made sense to me, nor did they make any effort to understand how I or any individual learned. That led me to start resenting school and classrooms, as well as feeling helpless as my grades dropped because I didn't feel heard, respected, or cared for.
Then, when I was 15, I found a really cool person who made me feel heard for the first time. They took the time to understand me—who I was and how I learned. That reignited my passion for knowledge, which I thought had gone out for good. Suddenly, my grades improved, and I began to crave anything that could teach me something new. All because someone allowed me to discover who I am and how I learn best.
You can’t learn if you don’t feel motivated, and you can’t feel motivated in a space where you don’t feel HEARD!

Teaching Methodology and Techniques:
My teaching method is centered around tailoring the experience to each student's learning style, focusing on compassion, growth, and care. I utilize unconventional approaches, such as games and creative activities, to enhance understanding and boost interest in Language Arts. My goal is to create a fun and memorable learning experience that resonates with each student.
Objective:
To address specific Language Arts concepts the student needs help with and deepen their understanding through a creative lesson, all while empowering them as individuals who feel confident to ask questions, make mistakes, grow, learn, and speak up! This approach also encourages kids to discover screen-free activities they can enjoy on their own or with friends.
Materials Needed:
Relevant texts or materials the student is currently using
Writing tools (notebook, pen/pencil)
Creative materials
Activities:
Check-in (15 minutes): Start the session by reviewing any specific topics or assignments the student needs assistance with. This could involve discussing challenges they are facing or questions they have.
Creative Lesson (30 minutes): If time allows, engage in a creative lesson tailored to the student's interests. This could include:
Storytelling with a Twist:
Students create a story using a random set of words or images. They can pick words from a hat or use prompts from a deck of cards. This exercise encourages creativity and helps them think on their feet while practicing narrative skills.
Character Creation:
Students create a character with a backstory, personality traits, and motivations. They can illustrate their character or write a short monologue. This exercise enhances character development and creative writing while providing an outlet for exploring complex emotions and building confidence in their voice and who they are, while also coming to terms with who they aren't.
Active Thinking and Feeling:
Analyzing quotes and passages from various types of writing, uncovering their meanings, and exploring the emotions they evoke.
Wrap-up (15 minutes): Recap the session, address any lingering questions, and assign follow-up work or activities to reinforce learning.
Assessment:
Informal assessment through observation during the check-in and creative lesson to gauge understanding.
Feedback on any assignments or creative work completed during the session.
Email/Text recap on what we learned each session!
What sets me apart as a tutor is my willingness to explore unconventional methods to enhance students' understanding. By incorporating games and creative activities tailored to their interests, I strive to make learning engaging, enjoyable, and memorable. My compassionate approach fosters a supportive environment where students feel comfortable expressing their challenges and celebrating their successes.
