About Blake
I’m a French tutor with over 10 years of experience and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations with French. I’ve always believed that language learning is most powerful when it connects to the real world. That’s why I love using French news headlines, journalistic interviews, and current affairs podcasts in my lessons. These authentic materials offer rich vocabulary, natural speech, and a direct link to French-speaking cultures. In our sessions, we listen closely to how journalists and interviewees speak—how they pause, emphasize, and express emotion. I guide students through pronunciation drills, intonation practice, and listening strategies to help them follow fast-paced, real-life conversations. Together, we work on understanding nuance and tone, building not only language but also confidence. I’ve worked with analysts, researchers, and globally minded learners who want to speak French about the world around them. My students learn to summarize complex stories, express clear opinions, and ask thoughtful questions—all in French. We also take time to reflect on what we hear, so language and critical thinking grow side by side. I adapt my approach to each student’s background and goals. My teaching approach focuses on helping students express complex ideas in French with clarity and depth. I guide learners through philosophical discussions, abstract topics, and advanced vocabulary. We explore major thinkers, ethical debates, and key movements through both classic and modern texts. Lessons include structured reading, thoughtful questioning, and group or one-on-one discussion in French.
I also help students write academic essays using clear argumentation and strong transitions. We review how to form a thesis, organize ideas, and use precise vocabulary. Grammar is reviewed in context to strengthen formal writing and speech. I'm especially skilled at working with Professionals and Hobbyists who want to deepen both their language and thinking skills.
Listening exercises include lectures, debates, and podcast clips from French academic or cultural sources. We focus on improving comprehension and developing a natural, confident rhythm in speaking. I encourage students to engage with French as a tool for intellectual growth, not just communication.
Each lesson supports critical thinking, cultural awareness, and higher-level language use. With time, learners become more fluent in analyzing and discussing ideas in French. We'll explore not just how to speak—but how to think deeply—in the language.
