About Rena
Master's graduate from TRU’s interdisciplinary environmental science program, where I worked closely with sociologists, criminologists, and natural resource scientists on a sociologically-based project. Completed a BA (sociology/philosophy double major, several psychology courses taken) at TRU with an honors-equivalent thesis. I have been a TA for lower- and upper-level several sociology and criminology courses at TRU. I have been an RA on several occasions (leading to a publication!) at TRU and UWindsor. I have been a tutor for a sociology of food course, and have mostly unofficially guided/tutored peers and friends. Of those I’ve guided, many have received high grades in their courses, REB application approval, and one has even received the SSHRC-CGS-M with my guidance. I’ve received several awards and recognitions, including the SSHRC-CGS-M and repeated dean’s list (above 4.0 CGPA in my BA and MSc). I have presented and attended various conferences, including internationally. My passion lies in academia, and I want to pay forward the guidance I’ve received from my academic mentors over the years.

I provide guidance with material comprehension, assignments, applications, and studying. Approach and philosophy: I believe that students and teachers are both active learners. I first take the time to learn what your approach to learning is (e.g., visual, auditory, etc.). I then begin by teaching you the material. Next, I encourage an open dialogue and discussion between my student(s) and myself to help develop an understanding of the material (beyond memorization). My goal is to help you build and further develop your critical thinking skills! I want to do everything I can to help you succeed. Diversity: Additionally, I understand the challenges that neurodiverse students may face in academia. This understanding comes from lived experience with both myself and peers I’ve guided.
