About SAM
I am Dr.ing : Sam Altnji, holding a Master’s and Ph.D. in Biomechanics (France) with a background in materials science and engineering. I am currently an Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Twente, The Netherlands. My teaching and research expertise spans biomechanics, smart manufacturing, and advanced technologies including Machine Learning, Python, and digital twins. With 12+ years of teaching experience, I have developed and delivered innovative, hands-on courses that combine theory with practical application. I focus on making complex concepts clear, accessible, and enjoyable, guiding students from the fundamentals to advanced Machine Learning techniques. My approach integrates well-structured lesson plans, interactive exercises, and quizzes designed to reinforce learning and ensure students can confidently apply what they learn. I have published numerous papers in Elsevier and ScientiDect journals and have actively participated in several international conferences. I hold both the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ, Netherlands) and a national teaching qualification from France, reflecting my commitment to high-quality education. Fluent in English, French, and Arabic, I bring a multilingual, global perspective to teaching. I teach Machine Learning with Python using clear, simple explanations and hands-on, enjoyable exercises, so students master ML while truly enjoying the discovery process. All teaching materials are carefully prepared and aligned with intended learning outcomes (ILOs) to ensure students capture and retain information effectively. Guidance is provided from scratch, covering every step from tools installation and Python basics to advanced ML algorithms, making complex topics well-designed, structured, and enjoyable. I combine 12+ years of teaching experience, PhD-level expertise, and fluent multilingual instruction (English, French, Arabic). Small quizzes and hands-on exercises are integrated throughout the course to reinforce learning and ensure concepts are confidently applied. This course is ideal for students, engineers, professionals, educators, lecturers, and researchers seeking a practical, hands-on introduction to Machine Learning and Python, regardless of prior programming experience. (Intended learning outcomes (ILOs)): By the end of this course, students will be able to: 1- Understand ML concepts and Python basics (variables, lists, loops, functions, tuples, dictionaries) and use NumPy and Matplotlib for data handling and visualization. 2- Implement linear regression, gradient descent, KNN, and K-Means, and develop hands-on image classification models. 3- Design, train, and evaluate neural networks (MLPs, CNNs, RNNs) using Scikit-Learn and TensorFlow. 4- Apply ML project management skills, including data preprocessing, workflow best practices, and end-to-end development cycles.
