About Ryan

I approach teaching guitar as a journey of exploration—one where we build skill, but also uncover your musical voice. Every student starts with different strengths, goals, and musical tastes, so I take time to understand what excites you and tailor each lesson accordingly. We’ll work on core skills like chord formation, right-hand control, rhythm, and note accuracy, but always in the context of real music. That could mean learning fingerstyle through acoustic classics, building lead chops using blues licks, or jamming over pop chord progressions. Music theory is introduced organically—when it serves your understanding—so you can see how scales connect to solos or how chord progressions set the emotional tone of a song. Creativity plays a huge role in my lessons: I invite students to write their own music, improvise over backing tracks, and experiment with structure and tone. One particularly memorable moment was working with a student to score music for a short film—a project that brought together everything we had worked on for months. I use a variety of tools, from chord charts to loop pedals and recording apps, to make learning dynamic and interactive. My goal is to keep lessons engaging, goal-driven, and supportive. I check in regularly to track your progress and adjust our approach when needed. Whether you dream of playing open mics, composing original work, or simply relaxing with music at home, I help you develop the technique and confidence to get there.

About the lesson

Teaching guitar with me means blending foundational technique with personal expression in a way that’s engaging and rewarding. We focus first on basics—posture, hand technique, strumming patterns, and chord changes—always applied to music that excites you, whether that’s rock, funk, fingerstyle, or pop. Understanding music theory is key;

I help you see how chords form progressions, how rhythm shapes feel, and how these elements combine to create songs. Communication is a priority; I use clear language and regularly check in to make sure lessons fit your goals and learning style. I customize lessons with visual aids, backing tracks, and hands-on rhythm tools to keep the material fresh and effective.

Guitar learning should be joyful and empowering, not overwhelming. To motivate, I share stories of success from famous guitarists and everyday learners who’ve triumphed over obstacles. I also teach essential skills like tone control, stage prep, practice planning, reading notation, and improvisation. Whether you play casually or aspire to perform professionally, I’m here to guide you every step of the way.
