About Layla

Hello! My name is Layla, I'm Canadian and Lebanese, I speak French, English and Spanish. I'm 25 years old, I graduated with a degree in psychology in 2021. In 2016 I started tutoring and I got hired by multiple different tutoring schools. I've had over 100 students in my career and I've had very little bad experiences. I'm a very patient, kind, funny, energetic, and passionate person. I absolutely love kids and working with students who are motivated to learn. In my free time you can find me DJing or playing basketball. It's an absolute pleasure meeting you and I hope I'll be able to help you.

I've been teaching since 2016 and I've had the chance to work with amazing students who were ranging from the best students to others who had many different learning disabilities, here is what I've learned myself, what I call my golden 10 rules: 1. Going over one topic over and over again is totally normal & I believe the first step in making a student feel comfortable is congratulating him for communicating his needs. 2. A teacher is supposed to become a role model or a figure of trust 3. Being patient and rewarding is the best recipe for success. 4. Positive reinforcement and Positive punishment are the key to getting your student to do the work 5. Creating plans and to-do lists helps your students visualize the goals they need to achieve. 6. No matter the grade, make sure to keep your student motivated. A bad grade doesn't mean a failure. 7. Reassurance and support is key to avoid students from giving up or feeling overwhelmed 8. Doing a student's work is not helping him. 9. Never give unrealistic tips or comments on a student's work 10. Learn to get to know your student, through stress and life challenges, your student looks for a tutor with compassion and humanity.

Details

I understand that with the economic crisis, some parents are facing financial difficulties. I have a great deal of empathy for what is happening in the world today. Moreover, I have had more than a hundred students during my ten years of teaching, and I have often had parents who tried to negotiate my hourly rate. Therefore, I have decided to make exceptions if the parents' economic situation is justifiable. Thus, I lower my price only if the student takes at least three or more lessons per week. Teaching is a job that I do very diligently. I closely monitor my students and provide follow-ups via text message and calls with the parents. I therefore ask parents to respect my working hours and, if I reduce the price of the lessons, to take this into consideration. Thank you very much for your understanding!
