About George
I'm an astrophysics graduate from University of Waterloo (UW) currently holding a Master’s in "Astrophysics and Gravitation". I have my own tutoring business called GeorgeTutors and I primarily operate in the Kitchener-Waterloo area with most of my students attending programs in UW. I have a rich teaching experience that stretches from the start of my master’s degree in Fall 2016 to this day. During this time, I’ve worked as a professor at Conestoga College for 2 years and prior to that I've hosted anything ranging from university course tutorials, full-fledged labs, telescope observatory tours, replacement lectures/presentations for supervisors, you name it. I’ve also been nominated 3 times for the “Sandford Fleming Teaching Assistantship” award and have won it twice in Winter 2017 and Fall 2019. This is a prestigious teaching assistant (TA) award from the Engineering Faculty of UW that recognizes superb performance. I also hold the “Fundamentals of University Teaching” certificate from UW. If you're interested to learn more about me, please visit my personal website at (concealed information) If you'd like to see what level of quality I strive for, you may want to check my reviews from students I've hosted in the past outside of Superprof on: 1) Facebook (concealed information) 2) LinkedIn (concealed information) 3) Older testimonies and thank you messages prior to setting up my social media in 2020: (concealed information)

I encourage students to build a list with all topics as well as specific problems they are having difficulty with. These act as the basis of a lesson plan, which is supplemented with additions from my side upon their arrival. For my online lessons, I use a touchscreen PC on which I write with a stylus pen live on MS Teams. The student also has the option of recording the session for revisiting later (upon request). In-person, the sessions are usually on a blackboard/whiteboard at a reserved library room. The work from our sessions is always available in a personal OneNote, or if in-person, the student can take photos of boards or write along with me as we traverse the problem. During a session, I always involve students in the problem-solving process. This is usually done by pausing at decision-making points along the process and asking the student how they would continue. If they don't know or are hesitant, I eliminate paths and present options that they could take while asking which is the most logical one. Rinse and repeat until the problem is solved. If in-person, and the student wants more involvement, I let them write on the board under my close direction on how to tackle each step.
