About Tess
I am a violin tutor with over 10 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Violin Studies. My background includes solo, chamber, and orchestral performance, giving me a well-rounded perspective on playing at all levels. I specialize in audition preparation for youth orchestras and music conservatories. I work closely with high school performers, conservatory students, and competition entrants to help them build confidence and polish their skills. Together, we focus on developing strong stage presence and mastering the interpretation of advanced repertoire. My lessons are tailored to meet the demands of each student’s unique goals. I believe that thorough preparation and expressive playing are key to successful auditions. I provide clear guidance on technique, musicality, and performance mindset. My teaching approach focuses on developing a natural and nuanced vibrato, an essential skill for expressive violin playing. We work on controlling both the speed and width of your vibrato to match the emotion you want to convey. Through guided exercises and practical application, you'll learn how to use vibrato effectively for phrasing and emotional depth.
I’m very experienced working with The Voice Actor and The Adult Confidence Builder, helping them build a strong foundation in this technique. Consistent feedback is key in my lessons, so you always know what to improve and how to refine your sound. I tailor my guidance to your individual needs, ensuring that your vibrato feels comfortable and authentic.
We focus on gradual progress, avoiding tension or strain while exploring different vibrato styles. Alongside vibrato, I help students develop overall tone control and musical expression. You'll learn how to add warmth and personality to your playing that connects with listeners.
My goal is to support you in mastering vibrato so you can bring emotional depth and sophistication to every performance. Together, we'll unlock your full expressive potential on the violin.
