About Dennis
Hello and thanks for looking at my profile! My name is Dennis; I graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor's in Mathematics and a Bachelor's in Geology, and I currently work as a web developer. Most of my working experience, however, comes from my time with Mathnasium. I spent a total of 4 years working at Mathnasium in some way, and the experience heavily impacted my teaching style for the better. During high school and university, I was heavily involved in speech and debate, which greatly enhanced my public speaking and communication skills. So much of that experience benefited my skill as a tutor, in that I can find many ways to explain the same topic in a digestible way to my students. In my free time, I organize online gaming tournaments and frequently commentate online matches. I am a commentator for the world championships of my favorite game. I look forward to teaching you!

My lessons focus on understanding how the math behind the problems works, so that when the lesson is over, the student can continue to work more easily on both the current assignment and future ones. Math is a subject that builds on itself, so I focus on explanation and understanding before rote practice. A typical lesson with me would involve student provided material, like homework or a past exam to review, as a starting point. We start by reviewing what is on the material and what the student needs to know already to tackle it before showing example problems with explanation and doing guided practice. My extensive mathematics knowledge, top-notch communication skills, and experience in a commercial tutoring setting set my lessons apart from other independent tutors; I am able to apply many disparate skills at once to explain any topic in multiple different ways so that any student can grasp a difficult topic. My lessons are available to anyone from grade 3 to 13. I can also tutor university level mathematics, though the price is higher for university.
