About Gavin
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Music and have been teaching guitar for over 7 years to learners of all ages and skill levels. My approach blends structured learning with flexibility to support each student's musical goals—whether they dream of performing live, writing songs, or just jamming at home. I aim to make the learning process rewarding and personal. Outside of teaching, I’ve performed with bands, worked in studio sessions, and composed music across multiple genres. These experiences help me bring practical insight into every lesson, so students can learn not only how to play, but how to listen, adapt, and express themselves musically. My lessons are shaped by real-world playing, not just theory. I believe every guitarist’s journey is different, and my role is to guide rather than dictate. I encourage exploration, creativity, and consistent progress. My teaching style is supportive, patient, and adaptable—designed to meet each learner where they are and help them build skills they can be proud of.

Guitar lessons begin with essential foundations—how to hold the guitar, tune it properly, and develop a clear understanding of frets, strings, and basic strumming patterns. For beginners, I focus on open chords, rhythm exercises, and building finger strength through simple songs to create a confident starting point. Each concept is introduced gradually, ensuring comfort and understanding at every stage. As students advance, I introduce more complex chord structures, barre chords, fingerpicking patterns, and music theory that applies directly to the fretboard. Lessons often include learning songs of the student’s choice, along with improvisation practice and scale training. Students also explore how to play by ear, follow chord charts, and begin crafting their own style. For experienced players, we dive into lead guitar techniques, modes, solo phrasing, and stylistic elements from rock, blues, or acoustic genres. Lessons become highly individualised and may include songwriting support, recording prep, or live performance coaching. The goal is not just technical growth but also musical creativity and independence.
