About Calix

I have over 8 years of experience teaching violin and hold an Associate of Music in String Performance. My passion lies in Nordic folk violin traditions, including Norwegian Fiddle, Swedish Fiddle, and Klezmer music. I specialize in teaching ornamentation and rhythmic bowing patterns that bring these styles to life. My lessons focus on ear-based learning, helping you internalize the unique sounds and rhythms of folk music. I use folk jam tracks and drone tuners to create an immersive learning experience. This approach helps you develop a strong sense of pitch and timing in a natural way. Repertoire-based instruction allows you to explore authentic pieces while building technique. I love sharing the rich cultural stories behind the music we play. Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience, I tailor lessons to fit your goals.
