About Gabe

Gabe Omolida is currently in his second year of a Master’s in Piano Performance at the University of Alberta, where he studies under Dr. Jacques Després. He previously earned his Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at the University of Regina under the guidance of Dr. Katherine Dowling. Originally from the Philippines, Gabe began studying piano at the age of nine after moving to Canada, and his dedication to the instrument has since led him to become an active performer, collaborator, and teacher. Gabe has performed in Saskatchewan and Alberta, receiving recognition for both solo and collaborative work. He has earned multiple first-place awards at the Regina and Saskatchewan Music Festivals and has participated in masterclasses with internationally acclaimed pianists, including Dr. Janina Fialkowska, Dr. Nicolas Namoradze, and Dr. Kyoko Hashimoto. In 2023, he further broadened his artistry at the Orford Music Academy under the mentorship of Jimmy Brière. His collaborative work spans chamber ensembles, vocalists, and choirs, reflecting his versatility as a musician. Alongside his performance career, Gabe is deeply passionate about teaching and sharing his love for music with students of all levels. He draws from both his academic training and professional experiences to foster musical growth and confidence in others. Looking ahead, he plans to pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA), continuing to expand his artistry while contributing to the field as both a performer and pedagogue.

About the lesson

Gabe Omolida has over five years of teaching experience, working both privately from home and at the Rosewood School of Music in Regina, Saskatchewan. His background in pedagogy is rooted in coursework completed during his bachelor’s degree, which he continues to apply and refine through active teaching and advanced study. He has taught students of all levels, from complete beginners to advanced pianists, guiding them in developing strong foundations in theory, piano technique, and musical interpretation. Many of his students have achieved top awards in local competitions, a reflection of their growth and confidence under his guidance. Gabe has personally completed RCM theory exams up to Grade 8 and practical exams up to Grade 9, further strengthening his expertise. His bachelor’s and master’s studies have also included intensive classes in theory, history, and advanced piano performance. With this combination of training and experience, he is able to provide comprehensive instruction in foundational skills, RCM exams, auditions, and local competitions, tailoring his teaching to meet the unique goals of every student.
