Once you've booked your flights and taken time off work for your visit, the next step is to plan where you'll be staying in Spain. There are a number of different options to suit every budget. While some people may prefer to save money on accommodation and stay in shelters or hostels, others may prefer to stay in large hotels offering a number of services. Here are the different options that you'll be able to find in almost every city in Spain.

Luxury Hotels

In the capital cities and tourist areas, there are a number of luxury hotels available with prices that range between $250-$550 per night. The prices range depending on the different types of services available, for example, some hotels may offer conferences rooms for business meetings and some hotels will have private gyms, spas and cinemas.

Chain Hotels

In any country, you are bound to find major hotel chains that you'll find in Canada. For example, Ibis and the Hyatt have hotels across major cities in Spain. Major chains offer rooms at anywhere between $100-$400 per night and generally have more affordable options. When staying at a chain hotel, you'll be more likely  to get affordable and good quality rooms in a good location.

Youth Hostels

For travellers on a tighter budget, such as students, youth hostels are another great option. There are a number of youth hostels around Spain, which offer private or shared accommodation. Staying at a youth hostel is another great way to get to meet new people while travelling, particularly if you are looking for other people to party or explore the city with.

Eating in Spain isn’t always cheaper than in Canada. Eating at restaurants can cost anywhere between $15 - $50 for a meal. This obviously starts to add up if you are eating out every day for every meal.

If you want to save money on food, you can get cheap meals at fast food restaurants, bakeries, or sandwich shops for $5-$10.

Don’t forget to try local Spanish specialities. For example, paella can cost between €10 and €15 per person. Bear in mind that paella can be shared with multiple people. There's also the full Spanish omelette (tortilla) can be found for around $7 or $8.

Tapas is another great speciality! These small dishes can be a snack or part of a full meal and cost between $2 and $5 each and consist of something for every taste, including meat, vegetables and fish!

Beverages $2 and €6 and you can find mixed drinks for $5.

If you don’t feel like eating out or your budget won’t allow it, another option is to prepare your own meals if you are staying at an accommodation with a kitchen such as an Airbnb.
