About Amelia
My teaching philosophy centers on creating a warm, motivating environment where students develop both technical proficiency and expressive musicianship. I focus on fundamentals—finger independence, rhythm, sight-reading, and dynamics—while encouraging students to bring personality and emotion to every piece they play. I use a variety of teaching tools such as technology-assisted practice, ear training, improvisation exercises, and composition projects to engage different learning styles and maintain excitement. I tailor repertoire and assignments to students’ musical tastes, whether they prefer classical sonatas, jazz standards, pop hits, or film scores, ensuring lessons remain relevant and inspiring. One student who began with little confidence was able to perform a complex jazz piece at a community concert after several months of focused work, highlighting the power of personalized coaching and persistence. I emphasize healthy technique and practice habits, including warm-ups and mindful repetition, to support vocal and physical health for all ages. My lessons also include preparation for performances and auditions, building stage presence and managing performance anxiety through practical strategies. Ultimately, I want students to not only excel technically but to feel empowered to express their own musical stories and emotions through the piano.

My teaching method for piano focuses on communication, accountability, and integrity to help students build confidence and skill.
I explain every concept clearly and encourage open communication. Students are free to ask questions and express concerns. This ensures lessons are effective and tailored to individual needs. Accountability is important for progress. Together, we set realistic goals and design practice schedules. I track progress and provide honest feedback to keep students motivated.
Integrity means being honest and respectful. I provide constructive feedback kindly and respect each student’s pace and style. I also teach related music subjects like theory and rhythm to support well-rounded musicianship. Through this approach, students develop strong piano skills and a lasting love for music.
