About Phil
I am a student at the University of Alberta. As an avid pianist of 10+ years, I love sharing the joy of music with all using an educational and rewarding approach. To me, piano should not be treated as a chore, but instead, a passion allowing one to express themselves musically. I have seen too many quit because of a strict curriculum, which is why I purposefully design my lessons around the student, rather than using a restrictive, performance-oriented rubric.
I strive to connect personally with each student and include music projects aimed at the student's own music preference alongside the learning of technical rudiments. Ultimately, I want my students to enjoy music, no matter the age or level.

My teaching method is highly personal and unique to the individual's goals. I welcome all beginner-intermediate players and start with basic rudiments. We will then move on depending on what the student wants: If you wish to pursue formalized, classical training, we will take an institutionalized curriculum such as the RCM; if you wish for personal enjoyment, I will tailor lessons to specifically match music genres of your interest.
In addition, I offer in-person tutoring as well as online, depending on your preference. Overall, I am very flexible, and will always strive to foster a passion for music above all!
