About Isaac
Originally from a small village in Northamptonshire, Isaac Prince is a Clarinettist currently based in London. He made his solo debut in St. David’s Hall, Cardiff performing Mozart’s Concerto For Basset Clarinet, after winning the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama Concerto Competition 2021. In the past year, Isaac has received Masterclasses from world-leading musicians such as Yehuda Gilad, Laura Ruiz Ferreres, Matthew Hunt, Carlos Ferriera and Harri Mäki. His recent festival highlights include performances with Maya Iwabuchi and Robin Green at the Hellensmusic Festival, taking part in Amsterdam and Främnas Masterclasses with Arno Piters and Herman Stefansson respectively, and the Voksenåsen Sommerakademi with Bjorn Nyman and Andreas Sundén. In 2020, Isaac was invited to take part in the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival in Lübeck, which was unfortunately postponed due to the pandemic. Isaac has performed recently as guest principal, sub-principal and bass clarinet with BBC Concert Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Grange Park Opera, Neville Holt Opera, English Symphony Orchestra, London Firebird Orchestra and UK Tours with The Music Agency. He has performed in concerts and masterclasses under the conductors such as Jac van Steen, Maxim Vengerov, Hannu Lintu, George Jackson and Leif Segerstam. Isaac graduated first-class honours from RWCMD in 2021 under the tutelage of the previous and current heads of woodwind Nick Carpenter and Rob Plane, respectively. Alongside winning the college Concerto Competition, Isaac also won the RWCMD Woodwind + Chamber Music Prize and auditions for side-by-side schemes with BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Welsh National Opera. Also a passionate arranger, Isaac has recently had his work performed at Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) Young Creatives Projects, Durham University Big Band Charity Events, Dynamica Brass Academy, RWCMD Repertory by Entrepreneurial Performers Company (REPCo) and the Ormonde Ensemble, a wind quintet of which Isaac is a member. Isaac is currently furthering his studies with a Master's in Performance at the Royal College of Music, London, studying with Barnaby Robson, Richard Hosford and Tim Lines. He is the gracious recipient of scholarships from the HR Taylor Charitable Trust and Charlotte Fraser Foundation. He is also the 2022/23 holder of the Countess of Munster Trust Neil Black Award. Isaac is extremely grateful for their support as without it, his studies would not be possible.

My Experience - I graduated first-class honours from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD) in 2021 where I won the college's concerto and chamber music competitions. I took the teaching and outreach electives at RWCMD and during my Erasmus exchange at The Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland. I have been teaching since 2019 once I had built enough confidence in my own playing to pass on my knowledge! - Since I was seven I have been learning and practising music. After beginning on my principal study, the clarinet, I also went on to learn Guitar, Saxophone and Piano, culminating in A* and A grades in GCSE and A-Level Music respectively. - I am in my second year of my Postgraduate degree as a dual scholar at the Royal College of Music in London. I am currently studying Master’s of Performance and I am also a member of the RCM’s Teaching Service. - I have a passion for outreach work, with recent professional work with Royal National Scottish Orchestra, London Mozart Players and Neville Holt Opera. I also volunteered at the RWCMD Juniors department during my undergraduate and currently work periodically at the Royal College of Music Juniors department leading and demonstrating in workshops. I have also led workshops and assemblies in primary schools in Cardiff and London. - Full enhanced DBS with barring certificate which can be supplied upon request. My Approach - I am a relaxed, enthusiastic and patient teacher and try to make each lesson different, fun and enjoyable! - I would be happy to help you to learn music as a complete beginner or strengthen your abilities as an advanced player, either as a practice partner or a primary tutor. - I am able to teach through ABRSM grades and other kinds of qualifications or if you're just wanting to do it for fun! I am also able to teach music theory in tandem or as a primary tutor. - I like to focus on building a solid foundation of playing with my students, which will help them excel through their musical lives. This includes working on a solid technique and holistic view through musical theory which I describe as “Capital Invested” as the groundwork pays off exponentially in the future! - I am a heavy believer that constant reassurance and appraisal is crucial in the early stages of learning any instrument, alongside fun and memorable exercises and games. I will never lose my temper or berate my pupils; I believe that if a student cannot understand, that is the responsibility of the teacher to change their approach and not the fault of the learner. - Unlike some, I truly love teaching and sharing my passion for music whilst watching the progression of ability. I believe if you have the right motivation, age does not matter at all - it's certainly never too late to learn! - Lessons can be 30, 45 or 60 minutes and I recommend 30 minutes for beginners and/or young people. I often teach in RCM on Prince Consort Road as I basically live there anyway… Lessons in my flat can be arranged if more convenient however. Furthermore, Zoom lessons are also an option. Don’t hesitate to message about any queries, look forward to meeting you! Isaac :)
