About Robert
I am here to give confidence to anyone that wants to succeed in a music career. I started playing drums when I was 17, and 3.5 years later I got a callback from Juilliard for their jazz drums program. That same year, I was selected to open for 20+ shows in the Walk with the Wind concert series, opening for Chris Potter, Immanuel Wilkins, Antonio Sanchez, Nasheet Waits, Melissa Aldana, and more. When I finished college, I was able to be full time in music because of a series of gigs I created (playing 350+ shows in just over 2 years). Now I am playing a wide range of gigs, being recognized by world-renowned drummers like ZEP, Corey Fonville, Jordan Rose, and more.

First thing: you do NOT need a drum set to start practicing and learning. All you need is a pair of sticks and a bed, pillows, couch, drum pad, buckets, or anything!
Second: As a multi-instrumentalist, I can jam bass, guitar, or keys along with a student's drumming so they can practice their songs in a real live band context!
A typical lesson plan starts with your goal for the session. Then with your goal:
1. my demonstration of the concept, groove, fill, solo, etc
2. full detailed breakdown of the technical aspects
3. deep listening to the source + discussion of musical context
4. instructions on how to practice it on your own
5. explanation of how your favorite drummers would go about deeply absorbing the material so you can do the same
The lessons are designed for ALL skill levels from the most advanced to the absolute beginner. I guarantee with my unique teaching concepts that I will have any person able to play a basic drum beat within their first lesson (I used to teach beginners a lot and figured out exactly what works).
Potential topics:
How to win auditions, sight reading, playing drum parts from any song, learning by ear, how to develop your own sound, how to develop a professional, *hirable* sound in multiple genres, how to play fast, how to improve your chops, and more
When I fell in love with drums and music, my self knew there HAD to be some reason why the greats were great and why the rest of us were not there yet. To figure it out, I took lessons from the following list of people, asking them questions so intricate they'd often say: "wow, I never even thought of that". The outcome was a synthesis of all their experiences that has allowed me to truly understand and replicate the specific practicing and studying that makes a great drummer great.
I've studied the minds of:
Jimmy Cobb, Corey Fonville, Eric Harland, Mark Ambrosino, Mike Clark, Kenny Washington, Jeremy Dutton, Kweku Sumbry, Michael Ode, Billy Drummond, Josh Dion, Vince Cherico, Abe Fogle, Joe Farnsworth, Craig Weinrib, Kyle Poole, Evan Sherman, Kyle Benford, Nazir Ebo, Kai Craig, Christian McGhee
