About Shane

I am a Music/English Graduate who received radio play on The Bear and XFM (older stations, I know.) I took time away from performing to get my Degree. Now I'm back to playing and teaching. So if you want someone who has both practical experience and formal education, I'm your guy.

About the lesson

I believe firstly in hands-on teaching. All my students have to have an instrument that they bring to a lesson, and we will practice and learn in real time. I don't mind sending students home with some homework, but only after they have sat with me and practiced some of the techniques. If there is supplemental material, I will often supply it just so that a student can reinforce some of the things that they have already learned and prepare for the next week.

Mostly, I believe playing is fun! Lessons should be interesting and apply to a student's preferences. If you like jazz, that's what we'll learn. If you like rock, I'll show you those chords. I will put ideas into a song context as soon as possible so that you aren't just learning isolated techniques, but are playing your favourite tunes! I will usually have you learning a song by Week 2. Most of my students have learned a song by Week 3 or 4.
