About Scarlett
Teaching piano has been a gratifying experience during which I have taught more than 150 students over four years. I focus on creating lessons that balance technical mastery and creative expression. Foundational skills such as finger dexterity, rhythm, and sight-reading are essential, but I also guide students to explore dynamics, phrasing, and tone quality for more emotive playing.
I incorporate music theory and improvisation to enhance understanding and encourage individual creativity. Lessons are tailored to each student’s interests, whether classical, jazz, or contemporary, to ensure engagement and relevance. One particularly meaningful moment was helping a student overcome stage fright and perform confidently in their first recital, a breakthrough in their musical journey.
I encourage effective practice habits and goal-setting to maintain motivation and progress. My goal is to nurture confident, expressive musicians who find joy in their musical growth.

Teaching piano has always been about connection for me—connection to music, to self, and to the joy of learning. I believe in meeting each student with empathy and curiosity, getting to know what excites them and where they feel stuck, so I can build lessons that are both effective and motivating. My sessions balance the necessary discipline of music education—posture, hand technique, timing, and reading—with imaginative activities that nurture personal expression.
I often include ear training and light theory, even for beginners, because I believe a deeper understanding leads to more confident and expressive playing. My teaching environment is calm, kind, and interactive. If a student is having a hard week, we shift gears. If they’re thriving, we lean into the momentum.
I also use a lot of positive reinforcement, helping students recognize progress in real time, so they stay engaged and proud of their development.One experience I cherish involved a student recovering from a wrist injury; we created an adapted program focused on one-handed pieces and musical interpretation, and she not only recovered physically but grew emotionally as a player. That kind of journey—where challenges lead to unexpected growth—is exactly why I teach.
