About Jessie
My piano teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that every student has the potential to develop a strong, personal connection with music—regardless of age, background, or previous experience. When I begin working with a new student, I take time to understand not just their musical preferences, but their learning style, personality, and goals.
This helps me design lessons that are both technically effective and emotionally meaningful. I emphasize foundational skills such as hand position, posture, finger independence, and sight-reading, while also encouraging musicality through phrasing, articulation, dynamics, and tone shaping. I often use visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning tools to make complex ideas more accessible and engaging. We incorporate theory, improvisation, and listening exercises so students gain a fuller understanding of the musical language they’re learning to speak.
I’ve worked with students preparing for formal exams, as well as those playing purely for personal enrichment, and I adapt my methods accordingly. One memorable student was a retired architect who took up piano as a creative outlet in later life; seeing her discover the emotional side of music after a career of precision and planning was incredibly rewarding. Whether we’re working through a Bach invention or a modern film score, I make space in every lesson for exploration, discussion, and reflection.
I believe learning music should feel like a conversation—with the teacher, the composer, and the student’s own inner voice. My ultimate goal is to empower each student to develop the confidence, skill, and curiosity to make music a lifelong companion.

My philosophy for teaching piano centers on the belief that music should be accessible, expressive, and enjoyable for everyone. I tailor lessons to each student’s abilities and musical preferences, from classical repertoire to contemporary songs and improvisational projects.
Building a strong technical foundation—proper finger technique, hand coordination, and rhythmic precision—is essential, but I ensure these skills are always connected to music that students find meaningful. I incorporate music theory and sight-reading in practical ways to enhance musicianship and understanding. Improvisation and songwriting play key roles in fostering creativity and helping students discover their own musical identity.
I use modern technology such as recording devices and interactive practice apps to provide immediate feedback and track progress, keeping lessons dynamic and motivating. Creating a supportive, patient atmosphere is a priority; students are encouraged to take risks and celebrate every step of improvement. My goal is to guide each student toward becoming a confident, expressive pianist who enjoys making music for life.
