About Guangxu

I am a native speaker of Chinese. I come from Shandong Province China, the birthplace of Chinese philosopher and educator Confucius. I have got PhD degree of English language and literature. I have the Certificate for Teachers to Speakers of Other languages (国际中文教师证书） and the Certificate for Mandarin Proficiency Test（普通话等级证书）. I am now retired, living in Ottawa. Before my retirement, I taught at a university in China Classical Chinese (古代汉语) , Translation of Ancient Chinese Classics into English (中国古代典籍英语翻译)， Studies of English Poetry and Poetics, English Reading, English Writing, English Speaking and Business Chinese, etc. I also had seven years of experience of teaching foreign students Chinese at my previous university in China.

About the lesson

In addition to the five general lessons mentioned above, I can also teach Classical Chinese (古代汉语)， translation of the ancient Chinese Classics into English (中国古代典籍英语翻译)， HSK exam lessons at all levels, Business Chinese at all levels, etc. My teaching philosophy is student-centered. Once you let me know your goals of learning Chinese, I can make you a personalized teaching plan for you. In my class, I often create a situation that is similar to the real situation in order to arouse student's interest and to let them learn the living language. In addition, I have a lot of teaching materials that can satisfy the need of the teaching work. My strong point is that I can teach Chinese, especially advanced and ancient Chinese, in English. I think this is absolutely necessary for adult students and those who want to realize their aim in a short period of time. Many of my HSK students have passed various levels of HSK exams and some have got the offers of some Chinese leading universities. Many of Business Chinese students can now participate business activities in Chinese. Welcome booking your trial lessons.

Guangxu is a fantastic teacher of Chinese for kids and adults. I have known him since 2012, and as a teacher of my kids, he did an awesome job in getting them to master the basics of the Chinese language. His focus on character recognition, pronunciation, writing, and reading quickly turned them into Chinese language enthusiasts. He is a friendly and patient teacher. I recommended adult learners to him, and each of them learned quickly, mastering vocabulary essential to passing the HSK Examination. Guangxu has a ton of experience teaching non-speakers Chinese and knows when it is necessary to explain concepts in English, a language he is very fluent in. I cannot recommend him enough to anyone wishing not to learn but to master Chinese.
