About Bede

Hi, I'm Bede Smith. I Teach Meaningful Messages Through Well Told Stories. I do this by; Creating my own projects, Acting opportunities and even teaching Acting itself. I've been learning Acting and Story for over 8 years and teaching the craft of acting for over 4 years. I might secretly love teaching more than acting itself, which is a scary thought. I learn just as much when teaching others, which is always exciting. Other passions include Filmmaking, Industrial Design, Science and drinking coffee. Before I started teaching acting, I taught Industrial Design, 3D printing and TaeKwonDo.

About the lesson

Do you know why Acting is called acting?
It's not called Emoting because we emote, it isn't called Feeling because we feel.

It's called Acting because we take ACTION.

Unfortunately, most actors fall into the trap of emoting or feeling and forget to Action their Story. We do not just emote in life, we take action, It's no different for the characters we play in a Story. That's where my process begins: learning how "You" as an individual take action. I do this through various Practical acting exercises from the Meisner Technique. Now that we know how to take Action, the next question is: What do we Action?

We Action: Story.

This is where Story Theory comes in. Knowing what to action is just as important as how to Action. It's great to have the fanciest tools, but if you don't know how to use them, it means nothing. This is where you'll learn and action pragmatic Story theory principles. Knowing How to act and What to act, is a deadly combo, that will separate you from being just another Actor to a great Storyteller.

- Learning to use your instrument (Physicality, Voice, Thoughts, Blocking/framing, Behaviour) to ACTION the story
