About Ewan

I am a dedicated piano tutor with a Master’s degree in Music and over 9 years of teaching experience, helping students from various age groups and skill levels discover the joy of piano. My journey with the instrument began early in life, and it has remained a constant source of passion, creativity, and personal growth. Teaching piano allows me to share that passion while guiding others to find their own musical voice. Over the years, I’ve worked with beginners learning their first notes, intermediate students preparing for exams, and adult learners returning to piano after years away. My teaching approach is adaptable and student-focused, blending structured technique with musical exploration. I value patience, clarity, and encouragement, and I strive to make every student feel supported and motivated, no matter where they are on their journey. My lessons emphasize strong fundamentals such as sight-reading, hand coordination, rhythm, and expressive dynamics, while also incorporating music theory, ear training, and stylistic interpretation. Whether a student wants to master classical pieces, explore pop or jazz, or experiment with improvisation, I tailor lessons to meet their personal goals and musical interests. Outside of teaching, I remain active as a performer and collaborator, regularly engaging in solo and ensemble work. This connection to the broader music world keeps my teaching fresh and relevant. Ultimately, my goal is to inspire confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love of music in every student I teach.

About the lesson

Piano lessons are designed to support students of all ages and skill levels, whether you're touching the keys for the first time or looking to refine years of practice. Each lesson is structured to balance musical growth with creativity, making the learning experience both productive and enjoyable. I tailor my approach to fit your individual goals, musical style preferences, and pace of learning.

In the beginning, lessons focus on core skills like hand posture, finger strength, basic notation, and rhythm reading. You’ll learn how to navigate the keyboard with confidence while playing beginner-friendly songs that build coordination and confidence. These early steps lay the groundwork for more complex playing and ensure a smooth and encouraging start to your piano journey.

As your skills progress, we explore more advanced techniques such as scales, arpeggios, pedal use, dynamics, and expressive interpretation. Students are also introduced to music theory concepts, which help deepen their understanding of how music works and how to apply that knowledge creatively. Depending on your goals, we can explore classical repertoire, pop songs, or improvisation techniques.

Throughout the learning process, lessons remain flexible and personalized. Whether you're preparing for a performance, pursuing music exams, composing original pieces, or simply playing for personal enjoyment, each session is designed to help you build a meaningful connection with the instrument. The aim is not only technical improvement but also nurturing a lifelong appreciation for music.
