About Atrena

Female, age 24. 10+ years experience teaching piano. I started learning piano myself at age 2 and believe that music plays a transformative role in shaping our lives. My passion for piano and music education has been a constant thread throughout my journey. It has not only enriched my own life but has also allowed me to share the joy and benefits of music with countless students over the past decade. I believe that music has the power to inspire, heal, and connect people on a profound level, and I am committed to nurturing that connection in every student I teach. My background in psychology, coupled with my extensive experience teaching piano for over a decade, equips me with a unique perspective on music education. As a graduate with a psychology major from UBC and a commitment to becoming a licensed counselor, I bring a profound understanding of human behavior and cognitive development to my piano lessons. This multidimensional approach allows me to tailor my teaching methods to the individual needs and learning styles of my students, making my piano lessons truly unique. I have had the privilege of working with children facing a wide range of challenges, including ADHD, ASD, and dyslexia. Through these experiences, I have honed my ability to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive. My time as a Behavioral Interventionist for children with ASD has given me valuable insights into the importance of patience, empathy, and adaptability when working with individuals with unique learning needs. This experience has translated directly into my piano teaching, where I use these skills to create personalized strategies that help students overcome obstacles and achieve their musical goals. Furthermore, my role as a Kids Help Phone crisis line worker has sharpened my communication skills, enabling me to build strong connections with my students, understand their emotional needs, and provide the necessary guidance and support. This empathetic approach fosters a safe space where students can express themselves through music and find solace in the world of piano.
