About J'Maica
As a self-taught dancer, I was always nervous when taking class with more established dancers. I constantly worried about not looking everyone else, feeling behind, and it definitely discouraged me in my first years of dancing.
I didn't allow this to stop me. I took my first official dance class at 18 after only ever learning dances in my room on Youtube. My hard work allowed the opportunity to earn a dance scholarship to community college for 2 years where I became the captain of my team and a member of the school's traveling dance company.
My journey with dance didn't stop there as I transferred to a four-year university to earn my BFA in dance and communication, all while becoming a National Champion in the Hip Hop category at the world famous NDA competition.
My passion for dance continues as I now dance professionally and spend most of my time spreading love for dance and educating those around me. It is my mission to remind others that dance is for everyone, regardless of your background.

Whether you've taken a dance class or not, my philosophy is that there is no such thing as a bad dancer. There are only trained and untrained dancers.
My goal is to help you feel confident with HipHop, get more familiar with picking up the style and swag, and gain confidence in your ability and movement.
We will typically start with a nice warm-up to get your body flowing and then learn choreography to some of your favorite hits. Taking dance class in public can be overwhelming to new dancers, so my job is to create an environment where you can grow and blossom into the dancer you aspire to be, without the outside pressures.
Whatever goal you have for yourself, we will achieve. I will be in your corner along the way, supporting you, pushing you, and helping you fall in love with dance the way I did.
