About Ellen
I am a creative teacher and I love delivering material in a way that is engaging and thought provoking. I believe that lessons that are most effective are the lessons that are memorable!
Within Tutoring sessions, I pledge to identify gaps in knowledge and misconceptions imminently. Consequently, I will create lessons that bridge gaps in knowledge and rectify misconceptions in a way that is both exciting and individualised to the child.
As I see it, learning happens most effectively when a student has high self esteem and is made to feel capable. This is at the core of my teaching practice. I can promise to create a culture of empowerment within tutoring sessions and will go above and beyond to support students in their learning.

Aside from my experience as class teacher, I have a plethora of experience working 1:1 to support children with the curriculum. For example, I had a 1:1 SEND role in Year 1. Responsibilities included supporting an autistic child who was overstimulated in the classroom. This meant delivering the curriculum in a creative manner that was individualised to him. For instance, he loved to set up his toy animals by the whiteboard and pretend to teach his class. Consequently, I would teach phonics to his animal toys; when I asked a question, I would choose one of the animal toys and he would answer in their voice. I also had a role in a nurture room for children with complex learning difficulties:
All learning had to be delivered on 1:1 basis to meet the needs of these learners. My approach to this role was to lead with lots of positive praise and uplifting dialect. Finally, a huge part of class teaching is 1:1/ small group intervention and pre teaching. Every assembly time, I would take children out to pre teach them the material before the lesson or to correct misconceptions that I had spotted in their work the day prior. I found that pre teaching was particularly effective as it made children that struggled with a subject feel as though they were ahead of the other children; allowing them to answer questions confidently and feel like the ‘experts’.
