About Sophia
I have 5+ years of experience as a violin tutor and hold a Bachelor of Music in Music Education with a focus on Orchestral Strings. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of directing string ensembles, leading group violin classes, and coaching youth orchestras. My passion lies in chamber music coaching and fostering collaborative playing among musicians. I emphasize the importance of section leading, mastering ensemble dynamics, and tuning together as a group. These skills build strong team musicianship and create a cohesive sound. I’ve worked extensively with schools, community centers, and chamber groups, helping students of all ages grow as ensemble players. My approach encourages listening deeply to each other and supporting collective musical goals. There is a unique joy in ensemble playing that I strive to share with every student. Through music, we grow together—not just as players, but as a team. I look forward to helping you discover the magic of playing with others and developing your skills in a supportive environment.

My teaching approach centers on fostering creativity and freedom in violin playing, especially through improvisation in non-classical styles like jazz, folk, and world music. I guide students in creating melodies over chord changes and encourage them to develop their own unique improvisational voice. By focusing on spontaneous musical expression, lessons become lively and personal. I use practical exercises that build confidence and allow you to explore your own musical ideas.
I’m experienced in working with singers and performers who want to bring fresh energy to their playing. Together, we’ll dive into musical intuition and learn to trust your ear. We’ll practice improvising with simple frameworks and gradually add complexity. You’ll develop skills to express yourself freely while maintaining strong technique.
My goal is to help you unlock the joy of improvisation and make your violin sing in new, exciting ways. Whether you’re drawn to worship music or musical theatre, I’m here to support your growth every step of the way. We’ll build your ability to improvise smoothly and confidently.
