About Alec

Unlike most students moving their way up from elementary school to college level, I've always had a strong determination towards math even if I wasn't the greatest out of my friends at the time. UnfortunatelyI, I have heard directly and indirectly from different students what most of their dreadful thoughts are about mathematics. However, I do recognize its difficulty. Any student could have had a teacher who on some level didn't care enough about the subject and their lack of care, enthusiasm, and passion has a negative effect toward their students. Fortunately, mathematics doesn't have to be a dreadful topic and it can be taught is so many different ways that are much more effective at teaching students for their understanding. I also see my uniqueness in that I literally do math in my free time! This definitely has the benefit of keeping my mathematical knowledge fresh in my mind. I value patience and taking the necessary time as the fundamentals of teaching to help others learn when they most need it.

For many years, I've had the biggest passion in origami as having worked my way up to the super-complex level. The intersection between origami and mathematics is pretty huge and every time anyone engages with the art, they are in a way getting their hands dirty with mathematics!

About the lesson

Being a life-long math enthusiast and a student myself, I feel like I can easily connect to younger students with any difficulties they may have around the subject. I also admire the abundance of applications and the beauty that can be found in perhaps the most unlikely of places of mathematics.
