About Isla
Hi there! With over 8 years of violin teaching experience and a degree in Violin Performance (Contemporary Repertoire), I help students of all levels build a strong technical base and expressive confidence. I specialize in ensemble playing, orchestral excerpt preparation, and developing interpretation across Classical and Contemporary genres. In lessons, we focus on the core tools of musical communication—bowing, vibrato, articulation, and phrasing. We explore not just how to play, but why musical choices matter. Whether you’re aiming to pass an ABRSM or Trinity exam or improve your chamber music skills, I’ll guide you every step of the way. I also coach orchestra members in sectional settings, helping them refine timing, intonation, and group cohesion. Playing in an ensemble takes awareness and adaptability, and I teach students how to listen and respond with confidence. Each student’s path is different, and my lessons reflect that. If you’re looking to combine technical strength with expressive freedom, let’s make that journey together—through the shared language of music.

In my lessons, you’ll learn how music theory lives inside the violin. We’ll explore how scales create shape, how intervals affect emotion, and how chords appear under your fingers in real time. Theory isn’t just a subject—it’s your guide to better playing.
I love helping choir students and theatre lovers turn their ear training into string playing. I show how your understanding of harmony and rhythm can support ensemble awareness and expressive timing. This approach builds listening, phrasing, and performance confidence.
We’ll balance technique with deep musical thinking. For those preparing for exams, I offer targeted support with scales, pieces, and sight-reading, all backed by theory you’ll truly understand. You won’t just play the right notes—you’ll know where they come from.
