About Ivy
With over 3 years of guitar teaching experience and a Bachelor of Science in Audio Engineering (Guitar Focus), I specialise in jazz and blues improvisation. My lessons are designed to be engaging, supportive, and goal-oriented. Students explore modal scales, arpeggios, and dominant seventh theory to expand their harmonic understanding. Bebop phrasing and creative exploration are used to develop a personal improvisational voice. I have worked with students ranging from Intermediate to Advanced levels. Musicians preparing for professional gigs gain focused guidance on timing, phrasing, and soloing. My approach blends technical exercises with real-world musical application. I emphasise expressing emotion and individuality through improvisation. Lessons are tailored to each student’s goals and experience. Confidence and fluency on the fretboard are key outcomes. I love watching students discover their own voice through spontaneous musical dialogue. Every lesson is interactive, inspiring, and fun. Join me to start a meaningful journey of improvisation and creative expression.

The teaching approach emphasises hands-on guitar care, from string changes to basic setup and electronics understanding. Lessons include tuning, intonation, and action adjustment. Effects pedals and tone shaping are explored to help students develop their unique sound. The Campfire Strummer learns practical skills to be ready for outdoor or casual performances. The Worship Leader receives guidance to manage gear confidently during live services. Lessons are structured to combine theory, practice, and applied problem-solving. Students practise replacing strings, adjusting truss rods, and maintaining bridges. Guidance on pickup selection, EQ, and pedal setup is included. Lessons build independence and confidence in gear management. Students explore how small adjustments influence tone. Practical exercises are paired with creative application. Each session is goal-oriented and supportive. By the end, students master both their instrument and their sound. Guitar maintenance becomes part of expressive playing.
