About Gillian
I am a violin tutor with over five years of experience and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Historical Performance specialising in Baroque Violin. I especially enjoy teaching young children and guiding them in building strong aural and ear training skills. My lessons are designed to be fun, engaging, and age-appropriate. Storytelling is a key part of my teaching, as it helps children connect to the music with imagination. Rhythm games keep learning lively and playful. Movement exercises allow students to physically feel rhythm and melody. Simple tunes are introduced early to build technique and confidence step by step. I take inspiration from Suzuki and Kodály methods, adapting them to each child’s unique needs. These approaches focus on listening, singing, and natural learning. My lessons foster curiosity, creativity, and joy in every student. I aim to celebrate small successes to build confidence and motivation. Children are encouraged to explore sound and storytelling through their instrument. With patience and creativity, I make violin lessons fun, interactive, and imaginative. Together, we create joyful experiences that nurture a child’s musical ear.

My violin teaching approach gives equal importance to music and instrument care. I believe that an instrument that is well looked after helps students perform at their best. We begin with proper handling and storage techniques. I then introduce cleaning routines that protect the violin from wear. Lessons also cover string changing in a step-by-step way. Students gain hands-on experience until they feel secure in doing it themselves. Troubleshooting skills are added, helping them solve common issues without worry. This makes students independent and confident. I’m very good with The Content Creator and The Shower Singer, and I give them tools to always keep their violin ready for practice or performance. My lessons are practical, encouraging, and easy to follow. I celebrate progress both in music and in care. Students learn to see the violin as a partner they can maintain with pride. You’ll always know how to keep your violin safe, clean, and in excellent condition.
