About Leif
I am a dedicated piano teacher with over 14 years of experience teaching both in-person and online. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance, which has given me a strong foundation in music and performance skills. My teaching philosophy centers around active participation and helping students express the true intent behind the music. I believe that well-rounded musicianship comes from combining technique, theory, history, and creativity in every lesson. I adapt my teaching style to fit each student’s individual needs, whether they are beginners just starting out or advanced players preparing for professional careers. My lessons cover not only piano technique but also music theory and historical context to deepen understanding. Creativity is encouraged through improvisation and composition, helping students find their unique musical voice. I have successfully helped students at all levels, from complete beginners to expert performers. My goal is to create a supportive and inspiring environment where learning is both effective and enjoyable. My teaching approach focuses on building a strong foundation in piano playing while keeping lessons fun and engaging. I tailor each lesson to the student’s level and goals, whether they are beginners or advanced players. Along with piano technique, I include important music theory to help students understand how music works. This helps in reading music and improving overall musicianship.
I prepare students for exams like ABRSM, Rockschool, and A-Levels by following their specific curriculum and requirements. Lessons include practice strategies, sight-reading, and performance skills to boost confidence. History of music is also part of my teaching, giving students context about different styles and composers.
Creativity is important too. I encourage students to explore composition and improvisation, helping them develop their own musical voice. For those interested in jazz and pop styles, I guide them through the rhythms, chords, and techniques that make these genres unique. My goal is to support every student in excelling, whether they want to play classical pieces or modern music.
I believe patience and consistent practice are keys to progress. I create a positive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and trying new things. Each lesson is designed to challenge and inspire, helping students grow their skills step by step.
