About Evie
In every piano lesson I teach, I aim to create a space that is equal parts disciplined and joyful. Learning to play an instrument can be challenging, but it should also be deeply rewarding and personally meaningful. I believe that every student deserves an individualized path, one that honors their interests, strengths, and learning style.
My teaching emphasizes the technical elements that form the bedrock of strong musicianship—like consistent practice technique, proper hand alignment, efficient finger movement, and accurate rhythm and note reading. But just as important is the exploration of expressive tools: how to shape a phrase, use rubato tastefully, color a melody with different articulations, and interpret dynamics in a way that brings music to life. I draw from a variety of genres in my teaching, from baroque and romantic pieces to jazz standards, minimalist compositions, and pop arrangements.
One standout teaching memory is helping a young student, who had struggled with performance anxiety, build the confidence to play a solo at their school talent show. We worked not just on the music, but on mindset, stage presence, and emotional preparation. The pride they felt afterward was transformative. I also incorporate ear training, theory, and improvisation regularly, as they give students a broader understanding and appreciation of music. Most importantly, I try to model patience, curiosity, and enthusiasm in every session. My goal is to support the development of pianists who not only play with skill, but also with heart.

I believe that piano lessons should be a rich blend of technique, creativity, and personal growth. My teaching philosophy centers around making each lesson meaningful and tailored to the student’s musical ambitions, whether they want to play classical masterpieces, jazz standards, or their favorite pop songs. I focus on building solid fundamentals like hand coordination, articulation, and sight-reading while emphasizing musical expression and interpretation.
I encourage students to explore improvisation and composition as ways to develop their musical voice and deepen their understanding of the instrument. I strive to create a supportive, encouraging atmosphere where mistakes are seen as stepping stones to mastery and where students feel safe to take creative risks. Practice strategies and goal-setting are key components of my approach, ensuring steady progress and sustained motivation. Technology often enhances my lessons, with tools like recording and digital sheet music helping students engage more deeply.
One memorable success was guiding a student through the preparation of a challenging jazz piece, culminating in a confident, heartfelt performance. My ultimate goal is to empower students not only to play piano well but to experience the joy and fulfillment that music can bring throughout life.
