About Sumin
Hello! My name is Sumin, and I’m currently studying a Master of Teaching in Melbourne. I have a strong passion for education and experience supporting students through private tutoring, teaching assistant roles, and a recent student teaching placement at an Australian school. Having grown up in Korea, Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong before moving to Australia, I bring a global perspective and strong cultural awareness to my teaching. My Approach to Tutoring I aim to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel confident to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow. I tailor each lesson to the individual learner’s needs, using a mix of direct instruction, guided practice, and interactive discussion to build understanding and encourage independent thinking. For younger students, I incorporate visual aids, games, and real-life examples to keep lessons fun and meaningful. For older students—especially those preparing for IB or ATAR exams—I focus on helping them understand key concepts, apply theory to exam-style questions, and develop effective study strategies. Each lesson is typically 60 minutes long and includes: - A brief check-in and review of previous material - A clear explanation of new content - Guided practice with feedback - Independent tasks or challenges (depending on the student’s goals) - Time for questions and consolidation *I also provide optional follow-up resources or homework to reinforce learning between sessions. Qualifications and Experience - Currently completing a Master of Teaching (Primary & Secondary, with specialization in Business Management) at Monash University - Graduated from HKUST with Bachelor of Business Administration in Management and Marketing - Experience as a private tutor for both primary and secondary students - Completed teaching placement at Australian schools as a student teacher - Worked as a teaching assistant, supporting learners from early childhood to Year 12 - Internship at a fintech company as digital marketing intern - Final IB score: 41/45 [ATAR equivalent: 98.70 (2020)] *(7 in Business Management) Who My Lessons Are For - Business Management: Year 10–13 students (IGCSE, IB, and ATAR)
