About Maya

When you take lessons with me, you enter a space designed to honor your unique voice and musical aspirations. Whether you’re just beginning your journey or have years of experience, I tailor every session to meet your specific needs and goals. I encourage you to bring the songs that inspire you, so our lessons remain engaging and deeply personal. Together, we focus on building healthy vocal techniques like breath support, pitch control, and tone quality, combined with creative exercises such as vocal improvisation, lyric interpretation, and imagery to cultivate your expressive capabilities. I’m attuned to your emotional and physical state during each lesson, providing grounding techniques when necessary or energizing vocal workouts when you’re preparing to perform. My aim is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where you can confidently explore your voice, take risks, and grow your artistry. We’ll work together to establish a consistent practice routine tailored to your lifestyle, ensuring steady progress without overwhelm. In addition to solo singing, I offer coaching in harmony singing, songwriting, and stage presence to nurture your holistic development as an artist. Whether you sing for joy, emotional expression, or professional advancement, I’m committed to helping you unlock your full vocal potential.

About the lesson

To teach voice is to support a process of discovery—not just of sound, but of self. I approach this process with a method based on Communication, Creativity, Cultural Sensitivity, and Accountability. These values guide every interaction and shape a space where students feel empowered to grow. Communication allows us to create shared goals, honest feedback loops, and a vocabulary that makes sense to you.

I encourage you to ask questions, challenge ideas, and take ownership of your progress. Creativity gives us the tools to go beyond repetition and engage with music in unexpected ways. Whether we’re exploring tone through color imagery, acting out lyrics, or experimenting with improvisation, our sessions aim to inspire exploration and connection. Cultural sensitivity means that we treat each piece with care and awareness. I help students research the musical, linguistic, and social context behind songs and make intentional choices about the music they study. I also advocate for students to build a repertoire that reflects their community, beliefs, and creative voice. Accountability gives structure to our work. I provide goal-setting support, feedback you can apply immediately, and long-term planning that reflects your pace and ambitions.

You’ll leave each session with clear direction and the tools to track your growth. Technique is always at the core—we work on posture, breath, tone, diction, agility, and musical phrasing—but it’s integrated into a larger framework that values expression, context, and self-awareness. Whether you’re preparing for the stage or singing for personal fulfillment, I offer a space to grow in confidence, discipline, and authenticity.
