About Ashley
I am an English teacher and basketball coach with a passion for teaching on and off the court. In my free time, I enjoy reading (like any English teacher does). Harry Potter is my absolute favorite! I also enjoy watching The Office and doing anything that involves my dog, Zoey. I am a firm believer in building relationships with my students first and foremost, so they feel safe and comfortable to try new things in our tutoring sessions. Trust is key. I would love to be your teacher, cheerleader, and coach all in one!

I design my lessons for grades 8-12 with an emphasis around ACT concepts if requested. My first goal is to always get to know my students. Until we build trust, effective teaching cannot take place. A typical lesson starts with an icebreaker to help build that relationship, along with a 'bellringer' that recalls the previous learning or introduces the new content. This will be followed by a lecture with examples, interactive videos/tools, and exercises modeled by me. Then, the student will have the opportunity to practice the concept(s) on their own with me there to support them. Once I feel like the student has a good feel for the concept(s), I will assign practice exercises to be done independently that we can discuss during our next meeting. I like to always emphasize that we learn by making mistakes. It's all about having a growth mindset. Every mistake is an opportunity to grow.
