About Johnson
For over 8 years, I have been passionate about teaching guitar to school and college students, nurturing their musical talents and helping them achieve their goals. I approach teaching with the understanding that every student has their own learning style and musical preferences, and I strive to create lessons that are both challenging and enjoyable. I start with the basics—hand positioning, chord shapes, rhythm, and timing—and gradually introduce more advanced techniques and concepts such as improvisation and music theory. I use songs and styles that students love to keep lessons relevant and fun, which helps sustain motivation and progress. A highlight of my teaching experience was mentoring a group of students who formed a band and performed at several local festivals, which was an incredible journey of growth for them. I also emphasize the broader benefits of music education, including building confidence, focus, patience, and emotional expression. My teaching philosophy centers on creating a positive, supportive space where students feel empowered to explore, experiment, and express themselves through the guitar.

My approach to teaching Guitar is built on the belief that music should feel alive, relevant, and personal. Learning isn’t about memorizing exercises but about discovering the sounds and styles that inspire you most.
I work closely with each student to connect lessons to the music they care about—be it a favorite song, a genre they love, or an artist they admire. This connection keeps learning meaningful and keeps motivation high. I focus on developing solid foundational skills like rhythm, technique, and musicality, but always through the lens of real music you want to play. When challenges arise, I don’t just hand you solutions—I help you understand the problem, why it’s happening, and how to fix it with confidence and independence.
My teaching is grounded in integrity; I provide honest, thoughtful feedback that encourages growth in a positive and supportive environment. I’m flexible with how I teach, adapting to your preferred learning style—whether that’s playing by ear, reading tablature, or studying music theory. Alongside Guitar technique, I offer lessons in creativity, improvisation, and performance to help you build a full musical toolkit. No matter your goals or experience level, I’m dedicated to helping you enjoy your musical journey and develop skills that last a lifetime.
