About Jolie
I am a piano tutor with 3+ years of experience and a Bachelor of Arts in Musicology, specializing in Piano History. My teaching focuses on jazz piano improvisation, comping techniques, and developing a sophisticated harmonic vocabulary. I believe in a holistic approach that combines jazz theory, ear training for complex chords, transcription, and rhythmic precision. I work with students at all levels, from early intermediate to advanced intermediate, as well as professional and expert jazz musicians. My lessons are personalized to fit your goals and skill level, helping you grow with confidence. I emphasize creativity and spontaneous musical expression, encouraging you to discover your unique voice on the piano. My teaching approach focuses on helping you develop strong skills in songwriting for piano. I guide you through composing melodies and harmonies that express your unique voice. We also work on creating intros and outros that set the mood and wrap up your pieces beautifully. Developing clear musical themes is another key part of my method, so your compositions tell a story that connects with listeners.
I believe in balancing creativity with structure. This means you’ll have the freedom to explore ideas while learning how to organize them effectively. I’m very experienced in supporting both The Therapy Seeker and The Jazz Pianist. Together, we build your confidence in crafting original pieces that truly reflect your emotions and style.
Throughout our lessons, you’ll receive detailed feedback and practical exercises to strengthen your skills. My goal is to help you compose music that feels both personal and polished. You’ll learn how to bring your ideas from a simple melody to a full, expressive composition. With dedication and guidance, you’ll create your own musical legacy.
