I am a firm believer that systems yield results. Hence, I always study with 25 min blocks and 5 minutes rest. This is known as the Pomodoro technique as the attention span of our brain is limited. Thus, I strongly encourage my students to do the same. Therefore, my classes will be conducted in this manner. Believe me, less is more.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed an interest in my chosen field during my early high school years, where I found myself drawn to problem-solving and the application of theoretical concepts to real-world situations. My passion for private tutoring began when I started helping my classmates with their studies. I realised how much I enjoyed explaining complex ideas in simple terms and the satisfaction of seeing others succeed because of my support.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach mathematics, sciences like physics, chemistry, biology etc. I particularly enjoy discussing topics that challenge students to think critically, such as calculus, mechanics, or interpreting literary texts. These subjects encourage students to explore and understand underlying concepts deeply rather than just memorising facts. I find topics that require a lot of rote learning a bit less engaging, as I prefer dynamic and interactive discussions where students can ask questions and truly grasp the "why" behind the concepts.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, I had a teacher in high school who truly inspired me. They had a unique way of making every lesson engaging and accessible, always encouraging us to think beyond the textbook. Their passion for the subject was infectious, and their commitment to each student's success left a profound impact on me. They taught me that a great teacher not only imparts knowledge but also inspires curiosity and a love for learning.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

I believe a good tutor needs to be patient, empathetic, and adaptable. Understanding that each student learns at their own pace and in their own way is crucial. A good tutor should be able to explain concepts in multiple ways and find creative methods to engage their students. Effective communication, active listening, and the ability to build a trusting, encouraging relationship with students are also key qualities.
  • Could you share a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school?

Once, while tutoring a student struggling with algebra, I realised they were an avid musician. I used musical analogies to explain algebraic equations, like comparing variables to musical notes in a composition. Suddenly, everything clicked for them. This experience taught me the importance of connecting the subject matter to the student's interests, making learning more relatable and enjoyable.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

One challenge I faced was overcoming the fear of asking questions when I didn't understand something. I used to worry about appearing incompetent, but over time, I learned that asking questions is a sign of a proactive learner. As a tutor, I encourage my students to ask questions freely and remind them that curiosity is the key to mastery.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion lies in teaching and helping others reach their full potential. I find joy in breaking down complex concepts and making them understandable, especially when I see that "aha" moment in a student's eyes. Beyond teaching, I'm passionate about continuous learning and self-improvement. I love exploring new subjects and finding ways to apply that knowledge to my teaching methods.
  • What makes you a Superprof?

What makes me a "Superprof" is my dedication to my students' growth and my genuine passion for teaching. I constantly seek new methods to make learning engaging and effective. I personalise my approach for each student, ensuring they feel confident and supported throughout their learning journey. My commitment to fostering a positive and interactive learning environment, combined with my expertise in my subject area, sets me apart.
