About Megan

I spent my childhood years training in the Checchetti Method of ballet, attending multiple national intensives and completing my grade 8 exam. At age 15 I shifted focus to contemporary techniques while attending Huntington Beach High School's magnet arts program, APA. With APA began my pursuit of choreography, traveled nationally with their Reperatory Ensemble, and later to the New Prague Dance Festival where our director was awarded numerous accolades. I graduated APA being awarded Dancer of the Year, Best Reperatory Dancer, and Rising Star in Choreography. I went on to earn my BFA in Dance from Cornish College of The Arts, where I further honed my passion for choreography and dance education. At Cornish I danced for many esteemed choreographers including Bruce McCormick, Bruno Roque, Wade Madsen, Sam Picart, Alia Swersky, and earned my mat pilates certification under the direction of Michelle Miller. I began choreographing professionally upon graduating in 2019, first for a modern opera entitled The Photographer. As result of the pandemic, I switched gears in 2021 to start a business focused in Dance for Healing, and pursued my Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher Training in 2022 with School Yoga Institute. This past year, I launched my Dance Theater company, The Frettes, and will be taking our debut play SUZETTE to The Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2024. This is my debut at title character, Suzette, as well as playwright/songwriter.

About the lesson

Hello! Meg here, I am a professional choreographer and movement artist based in the Pacific Northwest and Edinburgh. As Artistic Director of a Dance Theater Company that specialized in transmuting life experiences into performance art, I teach you how to hone your dance technique so that it can be used as a tool for creative expression.

I take a somatic approach to all technique lessons. In other words, I teach ballet using the same tone and methodology I would use to teach a yoga class. Reason being, the stories of our lives live in our fascia. If we don't take the designated time to notice and release them through movement, the stories stay stagnant and manifest into tension and pain. Pilates and Yoga are all excellent ways to release the stories we carry, while dance and theater allows us to release the stories while alchemizing them into something we are proud of.
