About Simon

Hey! I’m Simon, and I’m a guitar teacher with 11 years teaching experience. No matter your age or experience level, I can help you become a confident, well-rounded musician.

Whether you’re just playing for fun or have dreams of selling out massive arenas, my coaching has helped dozens of players overcome their barriers, and I’d love to help you do the same! I have a wealth of experience and patience as a teacher.

To keep things fun, I use song-based learning to teach new techniques, rather than running boring drills and scales. My students stay motivated and progress faster as a result.

Guitar - Electric / Acoustic

I started learning the electric guitar at age 12 after seeing the music video for 'Can't Stop' by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I joined my first band in 2005 and since then I have been playing, recording, writing, and gigging in diverse settings and genres.

All of this playing experience has given me a great insight into how people approach making music and he uses this to create a relaxed and supportive atmosphere for my students.

Genres I play and teach include but are not limited to…
-Rock (Rock 'n' Roll, Classic, Modern)
-Blues
-Ska / Reggae
-Metal
-Country
-Pop

I also integrate Song Writing and Music Theory into my lessons, ensuring you REALLY understand what you’re playing.

When I teach, I make it all about YOU. I always get started by clearly establishing what YOUR goals in music are.

Once we have a crystal clear vision of what you want to achieve then we will get you moving towards realising your ambitions right away.

Whether you are just starting out or if you’re optimising the finest details, you will unlock your full potential with my holistic approach, combining theory, technical exercises, and song-based learning.

We all take different paths when it comes to learning so do NOT settle for the set-menu, cookie-cutter approach. The best way to reach your full potential is to learn with a teacher who understands where you are coming from and where you would like to be.

Before we've even touched the fretboard I want to hear all about your influences, who and what inspires you, where you're currently at and where you would like to be.

Every lesson I teach is personalised to suit each student's playing level and musical tastes to help them achieve their individual goals. Lessons normally get started with a quick and fun warm up, sometimes a little jam. We'll then get stuck into the main part of the lesson where we cover material that moves you towards becoming the player you really want to be.

I understand that the best way to learn anything is to make it fun. This is why I have had so much success with building up the confidence of my students and helping them surpass their wildest expectations.

Through my lessons you will develop:
-An enhanced technical ability
-A deeper understanding of your own musicality
-A developed sense of rhythm
-A working knowledge on caring for your instrument
-A greater level of confidence

My instrumental lessons can help you in the following areas:
-Improvisation
-Economy / alternate picking
-Timing and Groove
-Finger Picking
-Hybrid Picking
-Playing from Memory
-Soloing
-Understanding the role that your instrument plays as part of a band / ensemble

Song Writing / Music Theory
I teach music theory and song writing to a high level. The main goal of these lessons is to demystify the nuances of musical composition and to give you inspiration to write great music.

These lessons will help you:
-Understand why your favourite songs sound so good
-Identify and pick up song writing methods from your favourite artists
-Enhance your musical vocabulary
-Grow as a songwriter

Genres include but are not limited to…
-Rock (Rock 'n' Roll, Classic, Modern)
-Blues
-Ska / Reggae
-Metal
-Country
-Pop

Techniques include but are not limited to…
-Picking: Riffs, Solos, Lead Lines
-Chords: Open Chords, Bar Chords, Power Chords
-Finger Picking (Electric and Acoustic)

Your First Lesson

Your first lesson will be a chance to get to know me and experience my teaching style first hand. You will be able to discuss areas that you find challenging and you'll start taking the first steps to achieving your personal goals.

Beginners For guitar, you will just need your instrument (and maybe a few plectrums). Music sheets and all other materials will be provided by Simon.

For Song Writing / Theory, you will need whichever instrument you write on.

I highly recommend Simon as a guitar tutor. He really knows his stuff and he genuinely enjoys teaching. My playing and understanding of music theory have definitely both progressed after just two lessons.
