I'm a native French speaker and Sorbonne graduate. Since 2014, I've been guiding students from primary to secondary school, helping them excel in French. When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?
I started being a tutor after giving birth to my children. Because we don't have family living close to us and help us, I didn't go back to my previous job and started teaching French instead because it allows me to choose the time when I'm able to work.
Also, when I was a child, in France, teachers would always ask what you would like to do when you will be an adult. My answer was always to be a teacher.
What makes you passionate about your subject?
French language is hard to learn so there are plenty of things to explain at different levels. Also, French culture is very rich. So, there are a lot of different things to teach and talk about.
What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?
When I see the progress made by my students, it motivates me and I feel like I'm doing something useful, especially when my students get good grades.
I customize my lessons according to each student. We all learn in different ways so I will adapt to my student's way of learning and level. If it's not working, I will change my strategy and try something different.
Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.
When I was in grade 9 in France, I had a math's "Superprof". She was very strict but explained her topic so well that even those who were behind made big progress. I learnt from her that we can all become better in a subject.
What are your keys to success?
The basics are essential. I will make sure that my students know the basics. Even for non beginners, I will always explain their mistakes.
I always make sure that my student understands my lesson by giving examples and as many exercises as possible until they reach the required level.
