Words to Help You Learn Faster

A quick question!

Why do you fancy a movie of the same story over another? Why do you sometimes prefer a particular romance novel over another of the same story origin? The answer is because they used the right choice of words!

Since there are words that could arouse our interest and make us learn, then, it’s wise to leverage on the power of these words. And trust me, anything that interests you has a significant impact in educating you because you enjoy it. We all know there are certain words that can make your essay stand out from the next, and make the transitions between points easy on the eye for the reader.

Below are some words that could aid your learning and make your coursework easier.

  • Acronyms and Abbreviations

Do you remember MR NIGER D when you were in grade1? Or when you were taught the characteristics of a living thing? Each word represents the characteristics of a living thing. To date, those acronyms stick to our heads like nursery rhymes.

Now there is a difference between acronyms and abbreviations. In contrast, acronyms use each word's initials to make something meaningful that could help you remember them in the future. On the other hand, an abbreviation results from shortening or reducing the length of a word like Prof, Dr, e.t.c.

Regular use of these increases your coursework assimilation span and could make you learn things faster.

  • Jocular Songs and Phrases

Songs and phrases are the best way to boost your coursework learning speed. If you can take your mind down memory lane, you could remember a popular song you memorised just because you wanted to understand the meaning of a word in pre nursery. Till date, you can still remember the song, don’t you?

Songs or Rhymes serve as bridges that connect us to words we may find difficult to remember. Hence, it makes us learn them faster! Therefore, if you are having challenges with your coursework at the university, you can leverage on this option.

  • Connectors

Connectors are words used to connect words to bring meaning to a phrase or sentence. There are different kinds of connectors, and each performs different actions. We have connectors that cause effects, e.g. because, but, instead of e.t.c, and connectors that coordinate, e.g like, also, e.t.c.

  • Adjectives and Adverbs

Adjectives are words that qualify a noun. It usually comes before the noun itself like red, big, round, black, dirty e.t.c. They show us the degree of tonality in our course work. That way, we can learn smarter.

On the other hand, Adverbs modify the verb of a sentence, phrase or clause. For example, ‘the gentleman sings loudly with a lady, who also sings sonorously.’

It will be quite unprofessional to say `The man sings with the lady'. That could arouse more questions in the mind of the reader such as ‘how do they sing? Do they shout or mumble?’

The bottom line is that these words can help us learn faster if we use them accurately.

How to Become an Expert in Essay Writing

Fountain pen writing on paper
Improving your essay writing skills can make a huge difference to your coursework.

Writing an essay is challenging.

An important aspect of your coursework in school is essay writing. Writing a perfect essay involves many steps. You need to learn it right to have better grades and do your assignment properly. Below are proven tips for writing essays like a pro.

Don’t worry though, there are several techniques you can use to improve your essay writing skills and get the best marks every time.

Before you think about essay-specific tips and tricks, it’s worth working on the basics and building a solid foundation.

  • Proper use of punctuation

Just like a traveler, punctuation serves as a traffic sign or traffic light that tells you when to stop, pause, move, slow down, and the likes.

When writing, proper use of punctuation gives your audience a clear direction of what they are engaging in, what they are reading, what message is being disseminated, and how they should digest every sentence.

  • Be an avid reader

The number one secret to becoming an expert in essay writing is to read.  When you make reading a habit, you will never run out of ideas for essay writing. You will easily get ideas of how various essays are constructed, how the idioms are used, how to use the different parts of speech correctly, and when to insert morphemes, e.t.c.

You get these ideas from reading books, readers never run out of ideas. They never get discouraged by topics because there will always be an iota of knowledge left to understand what is in before them.

  • Learn How to Use Figure of Speech

Quick question! If you get a free offer from two different hotels to spend the weekend with your folks, which one would you instead go for?

The first hotel has a tidy, spacious visitors room and a well-shaved garden, while the second hotel has a spacious room, well-shaved garden, clean pool, a restaurant, and a mini club.

Again I ask? Which one will you opt for? I guess you will choose the latter because you feel more comfortable in the latter than the former, everybody loves enjoyment.

The same thing with your essay, when people read it, do they feel engaged? Do they love it? Do your essays cut deep into the emotions of the reader?

Figures of speech make this work! And part of speech makes your grammar stand!

What is Part of Speech and Figure of Speech?

Part of speech are words that make your essay grammatically accurate and aid easy learning. In as much as I hate to admit, too much usage of part of speech can make it difficult for others to comprehend your work, but when used appropriately will create a free flow of communication and bridge connection between your essay and the reader or audience—e.g. Noun, verb, Adverb, Adjectives e.t.c.

Figures of speech are like a sauce; they spice up our essay to make it interesting and very imaginative while creating engagement with your readers as well.

For instance — A personification.

'The trees are dancing rhythmically to the movement of the gentle breeze.' This is better than saying; 'the tree is shaking because of the wind'. Examples of figures of speech are irony, metaphor, personification, e.t.c.

Tips for Improving Your Grammar

There are several rules you need to adhere to in order to improve your grammar.

Just like the way we improve our new skincare routine to stay moisturized in every weather condition.

The same thing with grammar, we have to stay updated to remain relevant. In public speaking or in a quest to be a professional writer, your grammar plays a vital role.

So how do you improve your grammar?

  • Practice (Regular Reading & Regular Speaking)

If you speak correct grammar every day, eventually, it will become a habit.

  • Always write down your ideas and partake in a contest if possible

Make sure you write down every new idea that pops up in your mind. Not everything you can put on your head; you can't trust your brain. If you take the pain to do this regularly, you will gladly watch your English grammar improve drastically over time. Writing ideas down gives you a sense of responsibility, and when an idea seems to be forgotten, you can refer to your archive and refresh your memory once again. This strategy works like magic if you implement it as suggested.

  • Mimicry

Funny but true, Mimicking someone could make you be like them, subconsciously. For instance, you have a lecturer who is fluent in English with a good accent. If you tend to speak like him, you can become him!

While doing this, not for caricature but because you want to get the kind of value it portrays, Do not make it look too obvious, Try to relax and look for areas that fit you; anyone that doesn't fit you, please don't stress yourself.

No matter your challenges with coursework, there is room for improvement, and the solution is not far-fetched if you consider the suggestions in this post.
