About Susanna
- What kind of experience do you have?
After graduating with my 1st class BA Honours in Popular Music at Napier University Edinburgh, I moved to London and taught privately and at stage schools, including Pop and Stage School Academy (PSSA) and Centre Stage Theatre School. I was also appointed as Singing Teacher of Stagecoach Amersham for 2 years. I took on private clients throughout this time, and continued to do so whilst studying for my Post Graduate (PGCE) in Music Education. Finally, I gained my Masters (MMus) in Popular Music Performance with Distinction at the Institute of Contemporary Music (ICMP), London. After my years in London, I have returned to my hometown of Edinburgh, and began work as the Vocal Tutor, BA Course Coordinator and Lead Tutor at the Academy of Music and Sound Edinburgh, alongside my private tuition and performance career.
- Do you have an up-to-date PVG?

Some of my clients come for professional development including singers from The Lion King, West End London, students auditioning for universities such as Sylvia Young Music School, singing development for film such as 'Outlaw King' and choir directors wanting to update/MOT their vocal skills. Others are complete beginners who want to sing for self development and/or for personal enjoyment. Whatever your reasons, I can cater to your needs.

Want to learn to sing and understand music better? Or do you want to develop your current skills to a higher level?
After over 18 years as a professional vocal tutor and coach, I have developed an inclusive, holistic approach to singing - I understand that everyone is an individual and I work to cater your lessons to your personal & specific wants, needs and learning style to bring the best out of you and your voice. I will also demonstrate anything I ask you to do, modelling best practice and sharing approaches and information backed by current research and professional development.
I teach and coach contemporary singing, including pop, soul, jazz, RnB, funk, rock and gospel, from beginners to advanced level. My lessons also include stage performance techniques, vocal physiology and confidence building skills.
I am also an experienced songwriter, and frequently tutor and/or assist in developing songwriting skills. I also teach basic-intermediate music theory and sight reading skills.
Alongside vocal tuition, I provide tuition in essay writing and proof reading services, from Secondary to Masters level.
I have the following qualifications:
- 1st class BA (Honours) Popular Music degree at Napier University, Edinburgh.
- Distinction for Master Performance course at Tech Music School, West London.
- 2.1 PGCE in Music Education from Middlesex University.
- 1st class Masters (MMus) in Popular Music Performance degree from ICMP London.
I teach online, or from my home in Marchmont, Edinburgh.
I am most experienced in teaching adults & teenagers (age 16+), and am happy teaching complete beginners up to experienced professionals.

Perfect! She was extremely kind and put me at ease. She explained everything thoroughly so I knew what to expect.
Perfect! I was convinced I couldn't sing and I was terrified of going along, but Suzy is lovely, patient, brilliant and very encouraging. Would highly recommend her!
Perfect! I had a great experience with Susanna. From the very beginning, she makes you feel confident and at ease. She has a deep understanding of vocal theory and knows exactly how the body works when it comes to singing. Her clear explanations of how each part of the body is engaged in the process really help you connect physically and mentally with your voice

Perfect! Susanna goes beyond expectations, you shouldn't be put off by finding her here on Superprof rather than at a professional school.
I couldn't ask for a better coach, seriously.
She is welcoming, supportive, easygoing, funny but professional and precise at the same time.
I love the fact that she can break the tension with a smile or a joke and is capable at the same time to have so much focus on what the student needs to achieve in the session.
She put a system in place that is mind-blowing for the care of students. Every single thing mentioned in the lesson, any feedback that the student feels to share, is noted and some material is sent after the class. Audio and notes help the student to remember what the class was about and provide a guide to keep exercising.
She is capable to spot and hear small mistakes and immediately providing a correction to them.
I am so appreciative of the fact that she explains the reasons beyond techniques and technical terms. If she gives an exercise she would explain the reason in a technical and understandable way.
The booking system is efficient, appointments run on time and any variation is promptly communicated.
I am so glad I sent you a message Susy, I feel I found the professional person I was looking for, capable and empathic. Thank you for your carePerfect! Exactly what I was looking for, really impressed with Susanna's teaching style.
Perfect! I've had 7 sessions with Susanna now, as someone with no previous formal experience with singing/vocal lessons and can already see a big difference, not only in my ability, but also my confidence in singing. I very much like her flexible teaching approach, the fact that she follows up with notes from previous lessons, which makes it easy to revise the things covered in the past, and her very encouraging and positive attitude.

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
Being a complete novice to singing when starting my lessons with Susanna, I had no idea what to expect and was also very nervous of what she might think.
Very quickly, she was able to put me at ease, and also identify both strengths and weaknesses
Susanna makes lessons both interesting and fun. Because of her enthusiasm and effective teaching methods, I have been able to progress quickly and really enjoy and look forward to my lessons.Susanna taught Megan, my 11yr old daughter, singing for a series of lessons. Megan really enjoyed the lessons and found Susanna's approach to be very easy and friendly. She finds out what areas the child is aiming for and works towards that as well as providing a good base structure of fundamental rules that help a person to sing correctly and to the best of their ability. We intend to have some more lessons at a later date.
