  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in maths and engineering began at a young age, I've always been fascinated by how things work and enjoyed solving logical problems. During university, I started informally tutoring friends and quickly realised how much I enjoyed teaching. I found it incredibly fulfilling to help others gain confidence and clarity in a subject that often feels overwhelming.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I primarily teach GCSE Maths (Higher and Foundation Tier). I particularly enjoy teaching algebra, geometry, problem-solving, and probability, topics that require logical thinking and can be made intuitive with the right examples. I always aim to make topics like ratios and worded problems feel more accessible by linking them to real-life situations. I also offer SAT tutoring and electronic engineering or physics tutoring.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, my father, who is a math professor, has been a role model to me. He always made math look fun and not scary and intimidating. He had the ability to make boring topics into fun sessions, and that's what I try to aim to do as a tutor. Also, my A-level physics teacher was a major influence. He had a gift for simplifying abstract ideas and always made us feel safe to make mistakes. His ability to inspire confidence in students is something I've aimed to emulate in my own teaching style.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A great tutor must be patient, adaptable, and clear. It's essential to listen carefully, identify where a student is struggling, and adjust your teaching style accordingly. A strong tutor also builds trust and motivates students by celebrating small wins and reinforcing their progress.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I once got a difficult maths question wrong in front of the class. Instead of criticising me, the teacher said, "Mistakes are proof you're trying." That mindset helped me push through self-doubt. Now, I tell my students the same it's not about perfection, but about steady progress and learning from errors.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

Non-calculator maths under time pressure used to be my biggest challenge. I overcame it through consistent practice and better mental strategies. Now, I use that experience to support students who struggle with confidence in exams, especially during timed questions.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion is in helping others grow. I love teaching not just because of the subject matter, but because I get to help students build confidence, discipline, and belief in themselves. Whether I'm tutoring or coaching in another area, seeing someone progress is incredibly rewarding.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

I'm committed to making every lesson count. I tailor each session to the individual student's pace and goals, break complex problems into manageable parts, and motivate students to stay consistent. I'm not just here to teach content-I'm here to boost confidence and make them believe they can succeed.
