About Dotcolins
Greetings,
I'm Colin! I started playing music when I was 3 years old where I gravitated to folk music and percussion as influenced by my very musical family. My dad was a touring drummer and my mom was a music teacher who focused on classical guitar, while both of my brothers were drummers and brass players. I also lived with my grandmother who would play piano every day. I studied trumpet, piano, voice, and drums all through elementary, middle, and high school, before pursuing my undergraduate. Though I graduated with a degree in music education, I studied percussion and completed the necessary requirements of a percussion performance major as well. Following college, I worked in MD daycares as an events coordinator and caretaker, as a team building facilitator for ropes courses, a child and adolescent events facilitator, and eventually a MD certified music teacher with a tenured position in MD schools. All the while I have performed over 1000 shows nationwide, taught over 150 private students, and have started my own professional audio and recording business.
I have many hobbies outside of music including tinkering with electronics, video editing, paddle boarding, hiking, and disc golf. I live with my wife, daughter, cat, and a Boston terrier who sometimes is sleeping in the background of music lessons. Hope to see you in lessons soon!
Thanks!

Music is supposed to be fun! So why are so many music lessons and practice sessions so tedious and hard to note progress? Simply put, the old way of learning music doesn’t cut it for most young learners, and just reviewing the basics in hopes that the student maintains a self directed practice method, is not a good way to build a musical foundation, or more importantly, a love of music.
In our lessons, we focus on what the student gravitates towards the most and fit in the essential musical elements in each lesson. Learn any style, reach any music goal, and learn the importance of a relaxed and positive practice routine. Try it for yourself today!
