About Sumit

Hello! I’m Sumit Chakrabarty, a professional visual artist and experienced art tutor with a Master’s degree in Fine Arts (Printmaking). With over 7 years of experience in art education, I’ve worked with learners of all ages, helping them explore their creativity and master various techniques in drawing, printmaking, and design. My teaching approach is built on patience, encouragement, and personalized support. I believe that every learner has a unique artistic voice, and my role is to help nurture that voice through structured guidance and creative freedom. Over the years, I’ve taught in both formal institutions and community settings, conducted workshops, and developed art programs for children and adults alike. I’m also actively engaged in my own art practice, regularly participating in national and international exhibitions. Whether you're a beginner taking your first steps in drawing or someone looking to refine your creative skills, I’m here to guide you in a supportive and inspiring learning environment.

My Teaching Approach
As an art tutor, I focus on nurturing individual creativity, while helping learners build strong foundational skills in drawing, printmaking, and design. My goal is to make art enjoyable, meaningful, and technically sound—regardless of a student's age or experience level.

‍ Teaching Methods & Techniques
I use a step-by-step, hands-on approach that balances observation, imagination, and technique. I emphasize:

Visual understanding of forms, lines, textures, and space

Exploratory learning, encouraging experimentation with different materials

Art history references to enrich visual thinking

Real-time feedback, live demonstrations, and interactive discussions

Personalized assignments based on student interest and skill level

I also integrate digital tools when appropriate (for design or online drawing), making the lessons adaptable to each learner’s goals.

️ A Typical Lesson Plan
Each session (usually 60–90 minutes) includes:

Warm-up activity: Quick sketch or visual exercise

Main lesson: Focused practice on a topic (e.g., shading, composition, lino print technique, etc.)

Demonstration: I show live or recorded examples of techniques

Student work time: You apply what we explored

Feedback & Reflection: I guide with constructive comments and next steps

Optional homework/project for deeper practice

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
I’m a professional artist with a Fine Arts background, deeply engaged in both traditional and experimental practices

I adapt to each learner's pace, interest, and learning style

My sessions blend technical skill-building with creative freedom, which keeps students motivated

I work with both children and adults, and have experience teaching online and in-person across diverse age groups

I create a safe, supportive space where students are encouraged to express themselves without fear of judgment

Who Are These Lessons For?
My lessons are ideal for:
Beginners to intermediate learners of all ages
Children who love to draw and want structured guidance
Teens preparing for art school or portfolios
Adults rediscovering their artistic side

Anyone curious about drawing, printmaking, or visual storytelling
