Find out more about Jatin

  • Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

I started out quite young and have always loved music as it has always been a part of my life but I think I first realised the depth of my love for music when I started to discover my individual taste and listened to artists that most of my peers didn't listen to which made me realised that how diverse my genres were. It feels like magic when you find the music that appeals to you, beyond what you like in the sound and you can relate to what the artist is trying to express even if the experience is not exactly the same. That's the beauty of music, everyone can like it but everyone connects to it differently.
  • What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

I really enjoy working with aspiring and curious minds. They are all different and brilliant, with diverse personalities and possibilities. It is a privilege of being able to speak into their lives and help them understand the craft of music. The ability to share knowledge is like a superpower and the gratitude my students' show to me, makes my job ever so rewarding and worthwhile. As a musician and artist, it is my responsibility that others can learn to enjoy the art for which I have utter passion.
  • How does your work help society?

Art and music are basic human functions. Humankind and art cannot function without one another. We have the burning desire to create, whatever it may be and however tiny or grand. It is a form of expression and has the power to bring positivity and entertainment in the lives of people.
  • If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

While growing up, I had many role models. I’ve been reflecting on those role models and the influence they had on me. Prince, Frank Zappa, Andy Timmons, Mike Stern & Jimi Hendrix were quite an influence, I related to there arty intellectualism and quirky expression.
  • Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

Playing Football, Running, Skateboarding, Reading, Astronomy & Chess.
  • Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

Way back when I was still learning my first few open chord shapes, I somehow managed to understand the nebulous concept of playing music ‘with feeling’ in a way which actually made sense to me. I worked hard to incorporate the right kind of mindset into the practice routine, and to work on being able to play things effortlessly while feeling relatively relaxed.
To this day, my natural instinct each time I play a note is to be very aware of every little detail timbrally, dynamically, etc. so part of me probably wants to ensure that the listener can really hear all of those details, some of which might well get lost if I enhanced them with too much soft-focus processing.
