About Nathan
In my 6 years teaching piano, I have had the pleasure of working with over 150 students of all ages and skill levels. I focus on a balanced approach, combining technical fundamentals like finger independence, rhythm accuracy, and sight-reading with expressive elements such as phrasing, dynamics, and tone control. Theory and improvisation are woven into lessons to deepen musical understanding and encourage creativity. I customize each lesson to align with the student’s preferences, whether their passion is classical, jazz, or contemporary music. A particularly rewarding experience was helping a student conquer stage fright and perform confidently at a recital, which was transformative for their confidence. I encourage goal-setting and structured practice routines to promote steady improvement. My goal is to inspire each student to develop a lifelong love and appreciation for music.

As a piano educator, I’m constantly inspired by how students grow through music. I aim to create a learning environment that is encouraging, creative, and responsive.
I teach with structure, but I also leave space for exploration—because some of the most valuable learning happens when students are free to ask questions, make mistakes, and try something new. I teach note reading, rhythm, phrasing, and technique, but I also integrate creative skills like composing short pieces or learning simple songs by ear. I use visuals, movement, and games to make abstract musical concepts more concrete, especially for younger students.
With older or more advanced students, we might analyze a piece’s harmonic structure or explore different interpretations of a passage. One college student I worked with wanted to use piano to relieve stress from their studies, and we developed a custom setlist of calming music and improvisation exercises. Over time, the piano became their daily reset button. That’s the beauty of this instrument—it meets you where you are. My goal is to help students use the piano not just as a musical tool, but as a means of personal growth and expression.
