About Laura
☙ What sets me Apart:
Hello! I was professionally trained in chemical engineering at Yale, followed my heart into the kitchen to become a chef, and for almost a decade now, have helped companies successfully grow their business operations.
I work hard at building each student's self-confidence in- and outside of the class, as I genuinely believe that I'm only as successful as my students.
I absolutely love encouraging and teaching students in a creative and educational capacity, whether that involves diving into algebra or demonstrating the Maillard reaction through bread baking.
☙ I mentor/support in improving comprehension and achieving Above-Average grades in:
• Math (Common Core, Singapore Math, Basic Arithmetic,
• Algebra 1&2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus)
• Science (Biology, Physics, Earth Sciences, Chemistry)
• ACT/SAT I/II Test Prep
• College Essays & Application Submissions
• Creative Writing/Term Papers
• Exams/Homework Assignments
• Introductory Written/Conversational Spanish.
☙ Available for in-person tutoring sessions
☙ I can travel within a 10-20 mile radius to our sessions
☙ Grades: K - 12 + College Courses
A little Bit About Me:
☙ As an undergrad, I co-founded a program to provide a mentoring and teaching program to underserved youth in New Haven. I've spent over 6 years helping lower-income students in my hometown of Oakland apply to college, guiding them in essay-writing, application submissions, ACT/SAT test prep and interview strategy.
☙ As a culinary instructor I work with kids ranging from elementary- to high school, how to cook and appreciate nutritious food through simple, seasonable ingredients. In my classes, we learn to take the "restriction" out of dietary restrictions and get creative with our menu, whether we're vegan, seafood-only lovers, meat-lovers, vegetarians, keto fanatics, paleo loyalists, dessert lovers.... the list goes on!)
